Batman Family No. 20 Cover by Jim Starlin
It was the best Batbook of its era, and it had gotten there with new talent like Marshall Rogers, Mike Golden, Joe Staton and others breathing new life into the Batman family of characters.
So it was quite disappointing when The DC Implosion nearly killed Detective Comics. DC PR Rep Mike Gold suggested that the Batman Family content be switched to DC’s namesake comic, and DC Editorial Coordinator Paul Levitz approved it. For more details on this watershed period in DC history, I highly recommend Comic Book Implosion by Keith Dallas and John Wells from TwoMorrows Publishing.
For this last issue of Batman Family, Jim Starlin provided a memorable wraparound cover. Known more for his work at Marvel, Starlin at DC always meant something special from the influential artist.
