Death Valley No. 5 Cover by Don Heck
Don Heck was one hell of an illustrator who was unjustly maligned as a super-heroic artist when he was in reality incredibly versatile.
His work in anthologies was first rate and whether it was westerns, horror or sci-fi, his lush inking and dynamic storytelling set him apart.
This piece in particular reminded me of Milt Caniff. Others see Jack Davis, and they’re not wrong.
