eBook: Christopher Syn by Russell Thorndike & William Buchanan
I’ve always wanted to know a little more about this one. Christopher Syn was written by William Buchanan, with work on it begun in 1956, and it was published by now-defunct Abelard-Schuman, Inc. in 1960.
Buchanan adapted Doctor Syn creator Russell Thorndike’s 1936 novel The Further Adventures of Doctor Syn. My assumption is that the rewrite was done to include story touch points for the American market to make it more saleable there. If you know the facts, I’d love to hear from you. There’s an email link in the footer.
It was this book that landed at Walt Disney Productions and became the basis for the three-part The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh starring Patrick McGoohan. It debuted on Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color on February 9, 1964.
The book has been out of print since the 60s, and copies on the used market fetch a few hundred dollars as of this writing. I was lucky enough to find a scanned PDF of it. The text has been completely re-set and we now have an ebook.

The 1960 Abelard-Schuman edition.

The new ebook edition in ePUB, AZW3 and KFX formats.

I am so excited to see these new ebooks about Dr. Syn! I have been a devoted fan since first watching the Disney series on TV in 1964. And it hooked me on Patrick McGoohan forevermore! I’m also interested in the original Frankenstein, as well as The Beetle and The Jewel of Seven Stars. I’ve enjoyed seeing the various comic book work you’ve done, Scott, but these new ebook productions are my favorites. They’re downloaded and ready to read. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful work!
Your kind words are much appreciated, Rita. Hope you enjoy the books.
