Green Lantern No. 122 Cover by Dick Giordano

So Hal was dating the psychic Kari Limbo, who happened to be the comatose Guy Gardner’s girl as well. And Hal and Kari were going to get married. But guess who wakes up and spoils the milk?

Guy was strictly secondary cast at this point. A normal guy who’d never done anything wrong to anyone. Any wonder Kari would call it off with Hal out of love and respect for Guy, her first love, once he came out of his coma?

A rather normal human storyline you see less of today. I liked that Guy. I’m not much of a fan of what we know him to be now. Not everything needs to be amped up around heroes. Not their personalities, not overblown storylines, not every colour popping off the page.

Heroes are the contrast to the real and rather mundane world we live in. Let them stand out by deeds we can admire, and show that they are still very much human. Otherwise it’s like setting all text in italics. No word can stand out and make an impact.
