Green Lantern No. 124 Cover by Dick Giordano
The late Dick Giordano had a solid association with Green Lantern, notably for his collaboration with Neal Adams at the beginning of the Bronze Age, and later for drawing GL backup stories in The Flash.
He did the cover for Green Lantern No. 124, January 1980. Apart from being a good drawing, it’s notable for having been printed as a mirror image to the way it was drawn. I asked then-GL-editor Jack C. Harris why that was done. Was it because of GL’s head being too close to the UPC, or because it read better that way? He said, “Probably both.”
While I can see the UPC issue, I think the cover reads better (left to right, top to bottom) as originally drawn.
The original colour scheme was effective, but the background colour printed quite dark, so I’ve lightened that up here and made the GL and DC logos more complementary to the overall colour scheme.
I miss Kari Limbo, Hal’s former girlfriend. I understand she was killed during the 1994 Zero Hour event in DC Comics, but the original died in Crisis on Infinite Earths in 1985.
As published.
