Green Lantern No. 224 Cover by Gil Kane
It was the end of Green Lantern’s book as a generation of us knew it.
The book had as many good runs in it as lacklustre ones, and this period had ultimately petered out. At least they had Gil Kane finish out the book he had helped launch in 1959 with John Broome and Julius Schwartz.
Hal would move on to a short stay in Action Comics Weekly before he was completely rebooted and ‘updated’ in Emerald Dawn mini-series (plural) before being relaunched in v3 of Green Lantern. It wouldn’t last and he’d become Parallax and the Spectre before being recast as the GL of Sector 2814 after Kyle Rayner and John Stewart were another generation’s Green Lanterns.
