Johnny Dynamite No. 5 Cover by Pete Morisi
A comic book PI in the mould of Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer and other 1950s tough guys, Pete Morisi’s stylised art made Johnny Dynamite memorable.
The pre-Code stories written by Ken Fitch were more pulpish and adult oriented than what comics later in the decade would be able to depict. Writer Max Allan Collins recognised what Fitch and Morisi had accomplished and bought the rights to the character, reprinting some of the Dynamite stories in Ms Tree. More recently, the series was collected in a single volume.
