Limited Collectors’ Edition C-38 Superman Cover by Bob Oksner
Child endangerment laws aside, this is a wonderfully positive image of Superman rendered by Bob Oksner, the mighty and versatile artist who never did anything less than a solid job in his years at DC Comics.
The US was ramping up for their Bicentennial celebrations in 1976, so a staffer’s shot of the Statue of Liberty in the background completes the scene of Truth, Justice and the American Way. There’s a welcome innocence in this depiction that’s been lost over time in comics. It would be nice to see it return for a character like Superman.
Colour and packaging by me.

As published.

Lineart extracted from the published cover and made production ready.

New colour version. The bigger piece of work with this one was extracting the Statue of Liberty and rebuilding its missing pieces using the smaller scan of it from the back cover.

Re-created trade dress added.
