Limited Collectors’ Edition C-63 Shazam Cover

August 24, 2025|In General

Another tabloid cover featuring the Shazam show from Filmation and ABC on Saturday mornings in 1974. A production still of Jackson Bostwick in his Captain Marvel costume becomes a compelling cover.

On the back cover we have the Elders that advised Billy. The images were extracted from a high-res video source and cleaned up. I always thought the Elders were a bit cheesy, and their heavy-handed simplistic moral messages and foreshadowing made even a little kid’s eyes roll.

Captain Marvel Shazam Origin

For those not familiar with the lore of Captain Marvel in the comics, the wizard Shazam gave Billy his powers and then a huge block of granite crushed the old guy like a bug a moment later. The gods that made up Shazam’s name were listed on a wall, but weren’t characters in the stories.
