Love & Rockets No. 24 Cover by Jaime Hernandez

March 12, 2024|In Comics, Miscellaneous

In the 80s, I have to say I wasn’t a Love & Rockets fan. I thought the art – especially by Jaime Hernandez – was amazing, but being a teen into super-heroes, sci-fi and adventure, something a bit more mature like L&R just didn’t resonate with me yet.

When the Hernandezes helped Dean Motter start up his avant garde Mister X, that I was on board for, and I still wish they’d been able to stick with it beyond the few issues they did.

Time moves on and some things move to the back of your mind until the string of their memory is tugged on. Seeing a scan of the original art used here reminded me of just how powerful the images from L&R could be, and this piece in particular was one of the more iconic examples of Jaime Hernandez’s drawing skills.

I had no wish to make a new full-colour version of this one. But as a tribute, there was room at the top to extend the black and make a couple of new poster versions with new typography.
