Marvel Classics Comics Nos. 18 and 26 Covers by Buscema and Chan
Unlike the rather sedate original Classic Comics, Marvel’s mid-70s version emphasized the energy and action that made them the dominant American comics publisher of its time.
The books chosen generally had adventure as one of their themes, and Homer’s The Iliad and The Odyssey – two of the Western world’s oldest epics – were adapted in two issues of the series. The quieter parts of the books generally got overlooked while keeping the high-energy narrative clipping along unabated. It’s an approach that generally worked well. They published 36 issues before calling it a day.
