Marvel Treasury Edition No. 31 Cover featuring Adam Warlock by Jim Starlin
Along with Neal Adams, Jim Starlin was my earliest influence when I began drawing more seriously in my mid teens.
I think my first exposure to his work were Warlock reprints in Fantasy Masterpieces v2. Classic Silver Surfer by John Buscema up front, and Warlock in the back.
Add to that Starlin’s growing body of work over at DC and he quickly became a favourite. The early 80s saw success with books printed on Baxter paper with light cardstock covers. That gave us the Warlock Special Edition six-issue mini-series reprinting the classic Starlin tales.
Warlock never got a treasury edition, so I’ve taken the cover to Special Edition No. 1 and packaged it as one of those fantastic oversized issues.
Colour and re-created trade dress by me. No AI was used.
NOTE: For a more complete Warlock collection, Marvel has an omnibus that adds the stories that led up to Starlin’s time on the series, and a couple that were released after.

As published.

Original art scan from Heritage Auctions.

Art made production ready. Treasuries aren’t as tall as regular comics, so some elements were moved down and closer together.

Re-created trade dress added.
