Back in the mid 1970s, David Michelinie had the idea to connect the books he created with the same background concept of gods of law and chaos – or light and darkness – who could not fight directly for dominance in our worlds, and so each side chose their champions to act as avatars.
The books in question: Claw the Unconquered, Starfire, Star Hunters and Jonah Hex.
The connected concept played out differently in each book, and was only clearly revealed in the last published issue of Star Hunters – No. 7.
Pages 13 to 15 show Donovan Flint as he’s presented with the choice to become a champion for good. Page 14 is arguably the most important as it has cameos with Claw, Starfire and a Second World War scene that led me to believe that Gravedigger from Men of War was the fourth character (he’s not, and that’s direct from Mr. Michelinie), and hey, it’s also a page I have a decent scan for.

Excellent work, Scott! Great projects, too. Thanks for sharing!
I don’t see Jonah Hex anywhere. Did you mean Starfire? Jonah’s book was Michael Fleisher’s, not Michelinie’s. I would guess the WWII scene was meant to suggest the Unknown Soldier, whose very best stories were penned by Michelinie, although he wasn’t the character’s creator.
