Super-Team Family No. 1 Cover by Chan & Giordano

In 1975, DC created four new Giant comics around the concept of a family of related characters.

Batman Family was led by Robin & Batgirl, long-time backup features in the Batbooks. Reprints initially filled the rest of the book. After the title was cancelled, the concept was continued in Detective Comics during the Dollar Comic era to shore up Detective‘s declining sales.

Superman Family gave a new home to Jimmy Olsen, Supergirl and Lois Lane. Lane’s title was cancelled outright, Supergirl was without a home at the time, and Olsen’s numbering was continued instead of a reset to No. 1. Reprints filled the remaining pages for a time.

Tarzan Family continued with the lead feature Korak, Son of Tarzan’s numbering, and included a mix of other new material and reprints until DC lost the Edgar Rice Burroughs’ licence.

The last book – Super-Team Family – started out as an all-reprint title before becoming a general DC heroes anthology book.
