Swamp Thing No. 6 Cover by Bernie Wrightson
Swamp Thing is one of the great American comic book horror characters. During its initial run at DC Comics in the early 1970s, each issue was a mini masterpiece by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson.
No. 6 was the only one I read when it was on the newsstands, but it left a strong impression and when I began collecting regularly when I was older, it was one of the first series I wanted to complete.
So here’s a robot with no respect for old world craftsmanship facing off against our favourite plant man.
As published.
Scan from Heritage Auctions.
Since the story takes place in a clockmaker’s workshop with skylights, the art has been extended to fill the whole cover. In the early 1970s, both DC and Marvel went to boxed art on the covers. Thankfully, that was a format which did not last.
New colour.
Re-created trade dress added.
