The Arthurian Era by Brian Bolland
Crisis on Infinite Earths had concluded, turning the DC Comics multiverse into a supposedly coherent universe. The History of the DC Universe two-book set documented the new timeline, and The History of the DC Universe Portfolio celebrated it with tabloid-sized images by some of DC’s top talent.
Plate One of the portfolio featured “The Arthurian Era” and there was no better artist to illustrate it than British artist Brian Bolland. Having already impressed readers in North America with his work on Camelot 3000, he would soon become nearly legendary for illustrating Batman – The Killing Joke.
Colour and packaging by me.
The cover by Bill Sienkiewicz.
Plate One – The Arthurian Era by Brian Bolland. Left to right, top to bottom: The Shining Knight, The Viking Prince, The Silent Knight, a couple of nymphy maidens and Etrigan, the Demon. I don’t pretend to know what the shark in the sky means.
Made production ready.
Colour version. Normally I wouldn’t add the logo here, but instead in InDesign as a vector object. I wanted to add a transparency effect to the title and so it made more sense to integrate the logo in the Photoshop file.
With the remainder of the trade dress added.
