The Daredevils No. 11 Cover by Alan Davis

May 2, 2024|In General

Despite being created by ex-pat Brit Chris Claremont, the first version of Captain Britain generally blew chunks. With a horrible costume and direction from the US, it didn’t resonate with UK readers. It wasn’t until Marvel UK developed its own editorial office and used all-Brit talent that things improved.

Alan Davis was new to the business when he was assigned the feature, and he was later joined by writer Alan Moore. Their run garnered critical praise, but was never a solid seller. Eventually, both Moore and Davis’ work attracted the attention of DC Comics and their careers took a big step forward.

Captain Britain would later cross the Atlantic, joining Marvel USA’s Excalibur title initially drawn by Davis.

Here are two pieces by Davis, with the second one featuring one of the deadliest and creepily malevolent villains ever created: The Fury. Pray it never comes after you.

New colour and packaging by me.
