Charlton Comics produced some good The Phantom comics, usually assigning one of their better artists to it. After Jim Aparo left for DC Comics, Pat Boyette stepped in and added his clear rendering and unique design style to the deep woods adventurer.
Issue No. 57 was cover dated August 1973. The scan showed the work of the Charlton production department. To quote Heritage Auctions:
The art is a composite photostat, enlarged drastically from a much smaller Boyette drawing, pasted collage-like onto the standard Charlton cover design template, and enhanced with minimal original inking and whiteout retouching.
Nothing like a little work to restore artwork. Here are the results with new colour.
