Ultimate Marvel Team-Up No. 10 Cover by John Totleben

February 26, 2024|In General

In the early years of computer colouring for comics there was a period of experimentation as tools emerged and the methods grew with them. But as with any experimental period some pieces were good, others not so much.

John Totleben had made his name as finishing inker over Steve Bissette’s pencils on the Alan Moore-written The Saga of the Swamp Thing. In a lush style that reminded readers of Bernie Wrightson a decade earlier, the work was evolutionary and was its own thing.

Later, over at Marvel, Totleben did this issue featuring Man-Thing, and the results were what we’d come to expect of the artist’s work. The cover art, though, did get buried under an overbearing air brush style of colouring that did the piece no favours.

New colour and packaging by me.
